Yes, yes, yes! I have been writing the eulogy for my guitar-player brother (whose band toured briefly with the Mekons during the floods) in recent days and thinking about the difference between us. Basically, it was Memphis, Egypt and Rock’n’Roll, for many of the reasons discussed. Thanks for helping me see that.

Interesting points although anything that is talk and not action is never the same as action, whether it is music or a speech. Whatever, I’m not here to debate, but to point out that you are not the first to confuse the Vancouver Subhumans with the British version.
