And they sang a bit flat, especially John. And the White Album is a bit of a disaster – easily the most unfocused and poorly recorded of all the Beatle records – let’s not compare it to Abbey Road except to say, “It isn’t anywhere near as good.” Now, there are some great songs on the White Album. There are great songs on every Beatle album. “Your Mother Should Know” is a pretty lightweight bit of Paulisms – he’s obviously continuing his infatuation with English music hall traditions, a genre he experimented with a lot – When I’m 64, Honey Pie, etc. So that’s what it is. It’s not a turd. It simply isn’t great. A lot of Beatle stuff isn’t great. But even their average stuff is pretty tuneful, well played and interesting. And they did a lot of this stuff first.

And your article is a bit of a turd, Tim. A blunt turd, because it is rather pointless and I’ve no idea why you felt the need to write such a thing. It’s like you’re filling up an album side with something like, oh, I don’t know – “Your Mother Should Know.” You saw that coming I’ll bet.
