The District is 98% Democratic with the remaining 2% mixed. To get 4X 2% = 8% is more than should be expected.

For you to suggest otherwise is fear-mongering.

Spencer self-reported when he was 100.3, and is being given proper care.

I highly doubt that a concerned volunteer is going to put others at needless risk. We’re not talking about Gaetan Dugas here, we’re talking about trained volunteers. Kaci Hickox is a hero, and deserves a parade, not quarantine.

I’m so glad I don’t live in a district where I risk being represented by you.

And is that what someone returning from the Ivory Coast is likely to do, versus a terrorist? What, exactly, are you afraid of? Do you get on elevators when there’s only one other person with you? That could kill you too, you know.

You do need to inject an element of rationality into your life and weigh probabilities. If you’re agoraphobic, the writer of this post can give you better info on that than on ebola.

Though Ebola is not an “airborne” disease “per se”, it can still be contagious because bodily fluids can be projected through the air – by sneezing, coughing or vomiting. Other bodily fluids such as perspiration or blood can be left behind accidentally in public and private locations.

During the 21 day “incubation period”, a seemingly healthy person from an Ebola hot spot could become symptomatic at inconvenient times and places, and thus become a transmitter of the disease before the public can be safeguarded. Hence, it appears to be axiomatic that humane quarantine procedures should be put in place.

It’s not airborne (there’s 40 years of experience with Ebola, it’s not like HIV, which was completely unknown when it arose; you can read up on it), and people who are asymptomatic are not contagious. That means that even if someone has full-blown Ebola you won’t catch it through the air. When Dr. Spencer turned himself in, he was running a temperature of 100.3 (not the 103 initially reported). And Hickox remains asymptomatic as of this writing.

A forced quarantine for people who know what to look for (they were out in the field, after all) and are following the Doctors Without Borders protocols (minimum twice daily temperature readings) is unfair.

(As for the “anti Governor Cuomo troll” part, nice ad hominem attack there. I prefer to not be a sheep.)

Oh wait… you must be related to the whiny ginger nurse and you’re butt hurt you couldn’t continue your incestuous relationship sooner. I can eat a can of alphabet soup and s*it a better argument than that. You think it’s unjust to order anyone who comes in contact with such an infectious disease to remain quarantined? It’s careless mental midgets like you that cause the death of many.

The Center for Disease control should act to actually control the spread of disease within the US – not just make feel-good proclamations. This is a matter of prudence, not fear. It is commendable for a doctor or nurse to help the unfortunate; but this is no reason to put their loved ones, friends and neighbors at risk of a contagious disease when they return home. Once they show symptoms they are already contagious, and then it’s too late. A suitable quarantine coupled with pay & job protection is a humane, rational and proper approach.
