So white, so old. What the hell is “the Compton”? How do you not put a single album by a black artist on your list? A Love Supreme doesn’t make the list but fucking REM does? Syd Barret’s a genius but not Nina Simone? Bon Jovi echoes the “noise of America’s disenfranchised”?

Have you listened to any of Kanye West’s music, particularly My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy? When you ask “will music incite courageous and productive dissent?” do you remember Kanye saying George Bush doesn’t like black people during Katrina? Have you seen any of his endless internet rants about black people and how they’re so often used by corporations? I’m not saying he’s any genius but he actually does bring up relevant issues. And as a hip hop producer, he’s one of the best. Listen to the record I mentioned. And stop stewing in all your white anger. There’s plenty of good music out there, as long as you don’t get it from MTV or VH1. How about Mac Demarco or Parquet Courts? Great NYC bands that are out now.

well you’re assuming many things here ; we have to think that mr. west hthas already listened to the basic and Classic hip hop and r&b albums; his disrespect for beck is the inspiration here; who is myopic now ? mr. west is by far – as evidenced by his actions more racially charged than the list Tim humbly submits here.

All great albums, but this is from a painfully White-centric, micro perspective. What about Be Gil Scott-Heron, Be The Last Poets, Be Arthur Lee, Be The Art Ensemble of Chicago, all radical in their own right, and people who fought an endless war at home because Home Is Where the Hatred Is when you’re Black.
