The Brooklyn Eagle’s neighborhood site, Brooklyn Street Beat, has enlisted the help of two plucky millennials to file reports on area eateries. “Sarah” and “Troy” have already tried “The Cleanser” at DUMBO Kitchen but didn’t offer an opinion opting to just let us know they were there. Hey, they’re putting the social in Social Media. Errr sumthin’.

Today they filed a video report on the offerings at Ani Sushi as they were “rockin’ down Montague Street looking for a place for lunch.” So, did they find their new favorite sushi spot? Watch the video above to find out!

The Friends of the Brooklyn Heights Branch Library held a Trustees Meeting on Tuesday night addressing the impending sale of the building. As previously reported, it was  announced on January 15 several BPL branches would be impacted as the system shifts to digital media and services. The current Brooklyn Heights’ Cadman Plaza branch will be closing and be “temporarily relocated.”  

The Brooklyn Eagle was on at the hearing and live tweeted highlights. (The “star” of the evening was apparently Josh Nachowitz—pictured here—the library’s VP for Government and Community Relations.)

As the BHB has been regularly following, the former Brooklyn Eagle building at 30 Henry Street & Middagh—purchased for $3.5 million in November 2011 by DUMBO-based developer Fortis Manor—was approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in December for a five-story, six-unit condo building to take its place.

On May 17, the new owner filed a permit for building demolition, and they’re wasting no time getting down to business: The block is now surrounded by plywood fencing along the front and north side, as the Eagle prepares to take flight and, uh, tumble to the ground.

Plans for the replacement red brick structure include underground parking and a courtyard with waterfall. See rendering below.

The Brooklyn Eagle building was constructed in 1963 and although landmarked, the Preservation Commission was easily convinced that the historic value of the one-story structure was of little value. And so it goes…
