Why is this neck of the woods celebrating the end of France’s monarchy? As usual, the press release explains it all:

Our neighborhoods are so filled with French families that the public schools are French/English bilingual. One third of our 220 storefronts are Food & Drink establishments—Vive les gourmets!!! We have huge support from our local business partners, especially Bar Tabac to make this happen.

In addition, there will be live music, food, the largest petanque tournament outside of France, and, of course, crepes. The party starts at 10am, so set your alarm clocks, you dirty stay-outs!

Source: Cobble Hill Blog
http://cobblehillblog.com/archives/8958

Brooklyn Baby Expo: June 2 In Carroll Gardens

Homer Fink

Around Brooklyn

Carroll Gardens

Events

Kids

Kids and Parenting

The second-annual Brooklyn Baby Expo will be held Sunday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the International School of Brooklyn at 447 Court Street, in Carroll Gardens. Grateful for the much-needed rest, Veronica doesn’t, at first, seriously question her husband’s trip out to breakfast with baby Clara. Little does she know, her spouse has fled lower Manhattan, with Clara, for some R&R in the Caribbean.

Told through alternating points of view, The Sunshine When She’s Gone explores the life-changing impact of parenthood on a couple as individuals and as partners. Thea Goodman brings us into intimacies made tense by sleep-deprivation and to losses and gains made more real by acknowledging them. Here is the story of a couple pushed to the edge and a desperate father’s attempt give them both space to breathe.

About the author
Thea Goodman has received the Columbia Fiction Award, a Pushcart Prize Special Mention and fellowships at Yaddo and Ragdale; her short stories have appeared in several journals, notably New England Review, Other Voices and Columbia. Born in New York City, she studied at Sarah Lawrence and earned her MFA from Brooklyn College, CUNY. She has taught writing at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, and lives in Chicago with her husband and children.

Source: Cobble Hill Blog
http://cobblehillblog.com/archives/8212

Next Homer Fink ‘Hidden Brooklyn Heights Walking Tour’: April 21

Homer Fink

Around Brooklyn

History

Arts and Entertainment

Brooklyn Heights

Brooklyn History

Education

Events

Fun

home fink

walking tours

The next jocular, wonderfully educational Homer Fink’s Hidden Walking Tour takes place this coming Saturday, April 21, at 11…
(via Brooklyn Heights Blog » Brooklyn History)

The next jocular, wonderfully educational Homer Fink’s Hidden Walking Tour takes place this coming Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m. Learn about the odd, weird, controversial and amusing history of America’s First Suburb over a sprawling 90 minutes of fun, led by the faithful kingpin of the Brooklyn Heights Blog, Cobble Hill Blog and Brooklyn Bugle.
