Any role Paul Giamatti has ever played – Whether it’s John Adams, Harvey Pekar, Miles from Sideways (photo), Paul Giamatti (as portrayed in Cold Souls) the greatest character actor of his generation is sure to inspire. For us, The Miles consisting of a pair of khakis, a blue shirt with giant wine stain is hard to beat for a last minute/brilliant costume. Throw in a large ceramic spitoon full of vino and you’re set for a great Halloween.

Lena Dunham – while her personal choice of Halloween costume may have set the interwebs on fire earlier this month, Dunham herself might be an inspiration for some. As a matter of fact you might not even need to buy pants. And if that still breaks the budget, try Lena’s Emmy look:

Truman Capote – Naturally. If there ever was a Brooklyn Heights related person who loved dress-up it was Capote. We’re fond of his look as Lionel Twain in the 1976 tour de farce Murder by Death pictured here.

Norman Mailer – The late author, raconteur and Brooklyn Heights resident is a golden opportunity for those in search of an intellectual and controversial choice. There are many ways to go with your Mailer – the NYC mayoral candidate (our choice), Gore Vidal’s nemesis, the worst husband in the world or walking around the nabe Norm.

Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe – While Marilyn and Arthur never, ever lived in Brooklyn Heights together, we’re pretty sure there may have been some checkamaumau going down here between them.

Recently opened Dellarocco’s of Brooklyn is scaring up a special spread for the upcoming holiday, with the unveiling of its “Halloween Pizza.” Toppings comprise pumpkin, smoked mozzarella and bacon. It’s the latest creation from Dellarocco’s Chef Pasquale Cozzolino. The “Halloween Pizza” is available upon request for $18 a pie.

Dellarocco’s, which opened July 31, is located at 214 Hicks Street, between Montague and Remsen Streets. It’s open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner from noon to 10:30 p.m., with take-out and delivery. The brick-oven pizzeria is owned & operated by Brooklyn-bred brothers Greg and Glenn Markman and Joseph Secondino. The three are also partners of the Heights Cafe next door at 84 Montague Street.

Author L.V. Salazar’s “The Ghosts Of Brooklyn” offers spooky tales of a “house of suicides” in Brooklyn Heights, demonic wolves in Prospect Park and a coven of sperm-stealing witches in DUMBO. Writer Natalie O’Neill spoke with the self-proclaimed ghost specialist in The Brooklyn Paper.

In the piece, he describes “ghosts” as such: “Imagine two rooms connected by a revolving door. One is life and the other is afterlife. A ghost gets stuck in the revolving doors. They didn’t fulfill their purpose in this world—or something terrible & tragic happened—so they go around in circles for eternity.”

In his book of ghost stories, among other wicked happenings, a man bursts into flames in Brooklyn Heights. Fun! Read O’Neill’s interview here.

The non-profit Lower East Side Ecology Center, based in an electronic waste recycling and reuse warehouse in Gowanus, is hosting an open house and family fun Halloween party Saturday, October 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The address is 469 President Street, between 3rd and Nevins, in Gowanus.

During the event: Decorate pumpkins and work on your electronic-themed Halloween costume; get your problematic Mac gadgets evaluated by a Tekserve technician; tour the warehouse and learn about e-waste recycling and reuse; browse the selection of refurbished electronics (and preview items for sale on the online store); and enter the raffle for gift cards and meals from local restaurants 606 R&D, The Grocery, the Sustainable NYC store and pickle-making with Brooklyn Brine. The event is free and “sure to be the perfect mix of spooky and techie,” the Lower East Side Ecology Center assures.
