With all the ad agencies and studios filming around the Heights, why not join the fray and aim for a little fame yourself? On My Block Films challenges its participants to:

Reach out to one another, introduce yourselves, and make a movie! We make this process more approachable for those who have never done something like this before. The finished videos are just between 1 and 3.5 minutes long, either narrative or documentary, and must be filmed only on the block you live on, using your real neighbors as cast and crew. This unique, collaborative process converts strangers into close friends, and in the process, builds a more closely connected city.

It would be interesting to see the differences (if any) between the inhabitants of Joralemon St compared to Clark St compared to the out-of-the-way folks on Poplar St or College Place. “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ is filming in DUMBO this week, as the neighborhood was taken over by police cars, the “Midtown bus,” crowds of extras and all sorts of whacko action.

McBrooklyn offers pics, including lead Andrew Garfield—and Brooklyn Heights’ own Paul Giamatti, who plays villain “The Rhino.” In the film, his alter ego is Russian thug Aleksei Sytsevich, complete with tattoos on his neck and forehead.

The seemingly ever ongoing film shoot for “Delivery Man,” which all but hijacked Brooklyn Heights in mid-October, returned to the neighborhood Friday for a less invasive shoot at the top of Remsen Street between Clinton and Court streets through the early afternoon into the post-midnight hours.

During the week of October 22, the 533 Kids Productions shoot overtook the Promenade, Montague Terrace, Pierrepont Place, Pierrepont Street, Remsen Street, and Orange, Cranberry, Clark and Henry streets.

Due in 2013 and starring Vince Vaughn, Ben Bailey, Cobie Smulders, Britt Robertson and Chris Pratt, the flick centers on a man whose life is turned upside down when he learns he’s fathered 533 children as a sperm donor and has to decide if he wants to meet up with his spawn.

Consider this the week that the “Delivery Man” took over Brooklyn Heights. Locating a street where the feature film shoot from 533 Kids Productions isn’t shooting in the neighborhood is easier than naming all those where it is. Tuesday’s scheduled filming near and along the Promenade was postponed until Wednesday because of cloudy weather—meaning that vehicles forced to move Monday on Montague Terrace, Pierrepont Place, Pierrepont Street and Remsen must repeat their desertion act Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, vehicles were banned Tuesday along parts of Orange, Cranberry, Clark and Henry streets, as filming ensued (with an abundance of kids present) early afternoon along Orange Street. “Delivery Man,” due in 2013 and starring Vince Vaughn, Ben Bailey, Cobie Smulders, Britt Robertson and Chris Pratt, centers on a man whose life is turned upside down when he learns he’s fathered 533 children as a sperm donor. When a bunch of the kids want to meet their dad, he must decide whether to reveal his identity.

Cars must be moved tonight by 10 p.m. on both sides of Clark Street between Cadman Plaza West and Henry, Pierrepont Street between Monroe Place and Clinton, Clinton between Pierrepont and Remsen, Montague Street between Cadman Plaza West and Clinton, and the west side of Cadman Plaza West between Pineapple and Clark.

Ask the Mayor’s Office about the inundation of shoots for movies, TV shows and commercials and you’ll get this response: “The industry provides high-quality jobs in an era when low-paying service jobs have become the norm.” According to the Boston Consulting Group, NYC’s film sector is the strongest in history, generating $7.1 billion in 2011, while employing 130,000.

But some residents of brownstone Brooklyn have a different take, saying that they’re paying the price for the boom. According to a story in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, with “the streets of historic Brooklyn Heights clogged with film trucks on a regular basis, local businesses and residents are fuming.”

Judy Stanton, Executive Director of the Brooklyn Heights Association, says she’s losing count of the multitude of shoots in the neighborhood. For one, filming of flick “Delivery Man” is taking place at Plymouth Church, the Promenade, Brooklyn Historical Society, Henry Street, Montague Terrace, Remsen Street and Pierrepont: “How many blocks? No answer. I think it’s excessive. More consideration needs to be given to little neighborhoods like this one. Last week, ‘Law and Order’ and a Lottery commercial were shooting at the same time. The Lottery trucks blocked Montague from Court to Henry street. That really did affect merchants.”

Andrea Demetropoulos, who owns Rocco and Jezebel pet shop at 89 Pineapple Walk, has launched a cease-fire petition, and tells the Eagle, “Filming is out of control. Three customers and the UPS guy this morning told me they couldn’t park anywhere. They’re killing the people who live here. This entire neighborhood is only 5 by 13 blocks. There needs to be a moratorium.”

The Brooklyn Eagle counts more than a dozen major films and TV shows being shot locally over the last two weeks: “Delivery Man,” “Smash,” “Law and Order: SVU,” “The Angriest Man in Brooklyn,” “Noah,” “Golden Boy,” “Zero Hour,” “Orange,” “666 Park Avenue,” “Carrie Diaries,” “Person of Interest,” “How to Be a Man,” “Infamous” and “Made in Jersey”—along with a number of commercials, like the New York Lottery spot being filmed on Montague Street. Filming for feature flick “Delivery Man” will take place near and along the Promenade on Tuesday, October 23. The NYPD Tow Unit will begin removing all vehicles at 10 p.m. tonight, Monday, October 22. The specifics: both sides of Montague Terrace between Remsen Street and Montague Street; and both sides of Pierrepont Place between Pierrepont Street and Montague Street.

In the BHB post last Thursday about Brooklyn Heights’ most recent inundation of film crews, Wiley E mused in a comment, “BH = Brooklyn’s Hollywood.” And how. On Monday, Montague Street was abuzz with a robust posse of equipment for a lil’ ole New York Lottery commercial. This morning, the entrance to the Promenade resembled the bravado of a major West Coast film shoot, while all afternoon, the action was centered inside Plaza Cleaners at 84 Montague, tucked between Heights Cafe and Teresa’s Restaurant. Throughout the day, trucks were parked along the entire south side of Montague between Henry and Clinton streets.

Following Tuesday’s BHB post about Brooklyn Heights being potentially overtaken by a multitude of film shoots, there was certainly plenty of ongoing action we witnessed along Montague Street, the Promenade, Montague Terrace, Pierrepont Place and Remsen Street on Wednesday and Thursday. A tipster in the ‘hood Tuesday evening informed us that he hears Wednesday October 10, is scheduled to be a red-letter (or is that red cone?) day in Brooklyn Heights for movie and TV shoots—with as many as 10 taking place around the neighborhood. Our usual online resource didn’t offer much in the way of specifics, but a trek around Remsen Street and Montague Terrace after dark tonight revealed plenty of yellow tape and plastic cones, as well as two massive vehicles parked at Remsen’s end near the Promenade, with “catering” signs on the windows.

As always, most shoots are accompanied by stern warnings about moving vehicles from the vicinity. Please let BHB know if you have details or photos about and from shoots this week.

Just in: Today, Friday, October 5, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., filming is taking place for ABC’s “Zero Hour. Cars should already have been moved from the following streets: East & West side of Clinton Street, between State and Atlantic Avenue; North & South side of State Street, between Sidney Place and Court Street; and the East & West side of Atlantic Avenue, between Henry and Court. The posted notice says that vehicles left on the street past 10 p.m. last night “may be relocated to a block nearby.”

While new ABC TV drama-horror series “666 Park Avenue” may be based on New York’s Upper East Side, its pilot episode features interior scenes filmed here in Brooklyn Heights. The show—which launches Sunday at 10 p.m.—stars “Lost’s” Terry O’Quinn and Vanessa Williams, and is based on the Gabriella Pierce novel. It follows couple Gavin and Olivia Doran, owners of UES hotel The Drake, whose corridors and upscale tenants are haunted by a wicked force.

In early August, the main floor of Brooklyn’s iconic mid-1800s Borough Hall was utilized for a scene that we’ll see in the show, with men decked in tuxedos and women in formal evening dress. The Wall Street Journal reports that the hall acts as a stand-in for the mansion of a fictional New York mayor, while the show “showcases some of the city’s most impressive, and at times forbidding, classic architecture.”

Dan Davis, production designer for “666 Park Avenue,” says, “It’s the mythical New York everyone dreams about but no one who lives here really knows.” The series’ primary exterior shots, meanwhile, are filmed at the Ansonia, on Broadway between 73rd and 74th streets. Other NYC locations you’ll see in the series include The Drake’s “secret room” in the basement of the Church of the Intercession at West 155th Street in Washington Heights. The nearby Hispanic Society of America, a 1904 Beaux-Arts library and museum on Audubon Terrace, will also appear; as well as the Flatiron Building.

“Girls,” the HBO comedy starring Brooklyn Heights native and resident Lena Dunham, will be filming in the Emmy-nominated creator’s home ‘hood on Tuesday, August 14, from 3-9 p.m. Cars parked in the shoot area will be towed.

Good luck making sense of the affected streets and corners: both sides of Montague between Clinton and Henry; the west side of Court Street between Pierrepont and Joralemon; the east side of Clinton Street between Pierrepont and Montague; the east side of Henry between Montague and Remsen; both sides of the street at the north and east intersections of Hicks and Montague.

Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary Victorian detective Sherlock Holmes has been transported to 21st century Brooklyn Heights in a new CBS Thursday night drama, “Elementary,” which premieres September 27 during prime time after its hit detective series “Person of Interest.”

Buzz about the show is mounting, according to The New York Post, not only from advertisers, but from the geek squad at Comic-Con in San Diego, who were zealous after being shown a sneak peek last week.

The Rob Doherty series stars British actor Jonny Lee Miller “as the funny and eccentric Holmes who, in his capacity as consultant to the NYPD, can deduce all manner of things the rest of us wouldn’t think of to solve a murder. He does it all with panache, great wit and peculiar style,” the Post reports. Lucy Liu stars as Watson.

While Holmes supposedly lives in his father’s Brooklyn Heights brownstone, the pilot was filmed in Harlem, with interiors shot at a studio in Long Island City. Setting the show in New York seemed like a natural fit also because of the city’s similarities to London. “If you’re going to transplant Sherlock Holmes to an American city it has to be New York,” Doherty says. “There’s a texture to the place that’s reminiscent of London and both have Victorian elements.”

Signs are posted for a film shoot Monday and Tuesday June 18-19, that runs along the cobble-stoned Joralemon Street from Hicks down to Columbia Place. Cars must vacate the street from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. on those days. The shoot is for a project called “Treasures.”
