Reminder: Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday 11/4: Back Up Your Clocks

November 1, 2012

Reminder: Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, November 4 at 2 a.m. Set your clocks back an hour as Standard Time resumes. The current schedule was determined by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which mandates that in the U.S., clocks spring forward on the second Sunday in March, and fall back on the first Sunday in November.

It’s also a good time to replace batteries in smoke detectors; dispose of expired prescriptions or over the counter meds in the medicine cabinet; and check lights and signals on your car or bike.

Daylight Saving Time was enacted during World War I, as part of an effort in the U.S. and other warring countries to conserve fuel. In theory, using daylight more efficiently saves fuel and energy because it reduces the nation’s need for artificial light.
