NYC Councilmember David Greenfield, who represents Midwood, Boro Park and Bensonhurst announced yesterday his opposition to the use of the description “mentally retarded” in all city documents, the Bensonhurst Bean reports.
Greenfield will officially introduce the legislation to the City Council. The state and federal governments already have such a rule in place.
The Councilmember was joined at his City Hall press conference by National Down Syndrome Society Goodwill Ambassador Chris Burke, an actor with Down Syndrome who rose to stardom as star of the ABC drama Life Goes On.
